THE CHALLENGE
Climate change is the greatest existential threat to our society. The sporting ecosystem is not immune to these consequences. Sport is also a significant contributor to the problem through infrastructure construction, fan and athlete travel, and the massive amount of waste generated at events.
Placing sustainability at the heart of racing, Formula E seeks to make climate action the norm, not the exception.
When the African continent’s first Formula E event came to Cape Town in 2023, delivery partner and host E-Movement tasked 17 Sport with designing a purpose-driven sponsorship strategy to ensure the event’s success and deliver for the planet.
OUR SOLUTION
In 2023, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Cape Town expanded and activated its vision of a cleaner, more sustainable future in Southern Africa and across the continent.
As E-Movement geared up to host the African continent’s first Formula E event, we were tasked with enhancing the Cape Town E-Prix's commercial value proposition, starting with a purpose-led strategy. We engaged with potential partners to discuss how this strategy could help drive their business and advance their green-economy impact aspirations in the region, while also gaining global brand recognition.

THE IMPACT
Partners of Formula E have built several legacy programs to positively impact South Africa and its neighboring regions.
From ecosystems promoting the green economy and smart city investment to an inter-academic design challenge and outreach programs in the precinct, local communities are continuing to benefit through the growth of e-mobility thanks to E-Movement.
