ACCELERATING THE TRANSITION TO A GREEN ECONOMY IN AFRICA

As Africa looks towards the future, moving towards a Green Economy that will create a better quality of life for its citizens is crucial. Together, 17 Sport and e-Movement have partnered to create Go Green Africa to help accelerate Africa’s transition to a Green Economy.

The current system is broken. Aging infrastructure, capacity difficulties, mismanagement, and a host of other factors lead to daily challenges for citizens. We need to change our mindset – shifting from trying to fix what’s in place to rebuilding a new system that benefits society.

Go Green Africa is the shared mission of organizations and individuals committed to accelerating Africa’s transition to a Green Economy in a just and inclusive way. We join forces with both public and private partners to widen our impact and leverage the knowledge of many minds. Starting in Cape Town, Go Green Africa initially focuses on using e-mobility to drive this transition. We believe that working together is the only way to create real, meaningful change, which is why we’ve joined forces with sports sponsors, and corporate partners to encourage these e-mobility solutions.

Our mission partners, including Uber, Eskom, Western Cape Government, Vuka, and SUSTNET, have pledged five key actions:

  1. Implement organizational decarbonization strategies within our own organization aligned with the most current Paris Agreement.

  2. Innovate to accelerate Africa’s Green Economy Transition, focusing on e-mobility related solutions.

  3. Educate, inspire, and empower relevant stakeholders to embrace the Green Economy Transition and e-mobility.

  4. Collaborate with other Go Green Africa Partners to share best practices, innovations, and opportunities around the Green Economy Transition and e-mobility.

  5. Leverage our influence and reach to actively adopt e-mobility solutions across our organization and in our supply chain.

As Kagiso Khaole, General Manager for Uber Sub-Saharan Africa, said, "We believe that our commitment to this partnership is symbolic of our business turning 10 Years in South Africa - it demonstrates the start of our next chapter, which includes being an active contributor to greening Africa using our platform as a catalyst."

We’re confident that we are stronger together, and combining our efforts and resources will help us take the action needed to make real improvements. Through these committed partners who are making this pledge for the future, Go Green Africa is moving Africa one step closer to a diverse and sustainable economy.

It’s up to us to create the future we want to live in, and we believe these changes can be made through sports for a cleaner, more sustainable world.

We’re ready to tackle the challenges ahead of us, and, together, solve the societal and environmental issues in South Africa and beyond.

If you share our mission to create a better future for Africa, we invite you to join us as a partner. Visit www.go-green-africa.com to learn more about how you can get involved and make a difference.
